Kiama U13.1 Girls v Oak Flats
A depleted Kiama Under-13 girls team drew 1-1 with Oak Flats last Friday night under lights in The Quarry, the result seeing Kiama go two points clear at the top of IJFA Division One.After a 15 minute power failure delayed the start, Kiama weren't switched on for the opening ten minutes of the match when a static defence let Oak Flats in to open the score. However, the girls dug deep to rescue what could have been a nightmare result for the table toppers, with a hard-fought, disciplined display from all quarters of the pitch.Chloe Cafe held the back-line together of Georgie Alexander, Ashleigh Campton and Georgia Harrison, extremely well throughout, while midfielders Seychelle Albert, Erin Dobson and Courtney Bowman excelled to keep the pressure on the opposition in their own half, while striking pair of Claire Farquhar and Rachel Roley constantly ran at the opposing defence to put them under constant threat. In the second half, "under-12 ring-in" Amy Cafe, showed some splendid skills to thwart the Oak Flats defence and set up a glorious chance for Kiama which went wide of the post. Minutes later Amy Hudson, in Kiama goal, made a splendid save from close range to keep her team in the game.At 1-0 down at with ten minutes remaining, Kiama chased the game for a result and swapped players around to accommodate the situation. Within 5 minutes Kiama were level, when Chloe Cafe latched onto one of Alexander's long throws in the area to smash home the equaliser from 7m.Player of the match, Claire Farquhar, came close to snatching all three points at the end, but it was a dour team performance which speaks volumes for the embedded belief in these young players camaraderie for the future, with the league title set firmly in their sights.
Kiama U16 v Balgownie
Kiama U16 division 2 boys travelled to Balgownie on Sunday morning determined to achieve their first point of the season. Fired up and ready the boys started strong really taking it to the opposition. A well worked play between Simon Meaney, James Malin and Josh Keatley gave Kiama a 1 - 0 lead after 20 minutes. Balgownie equalized 2 minutes later but Kiama kept their heads held high and the game went to the break still 1 - 1. Still fired up the boys continued to play the ball beautifully through the midfield but this was matched by the Balgownie attack. Late in the second half the game turned scrappy but the Kiama lads held strong for their first point after a 1 - 1 draw. Man of the match was awarded to Jacob Pickles and Jon Brain after a fantastic game from both of them. Thanks to Josh Keatley for helping the boys out! Great goal Josh.
Kiama U17 Girls v Tarrawanna
U17 Girls were unlucky not to record their second straight win on Sunday. Playing with only 10 players, Kiama took the lead thanks to a classy through ball from Chiara Lyon which was expertly finished by Kim Gowland. Kiama's defence, led by the tenacious Eliza Wilcox, frustrated Tarrawanna's attack whilst a tireless Caitlin Brindley fed the attack, enabling Courtney Moon to demonstrate her many ball skills. Tarrawanna managed a few late goals but it was a determined and courageous effort by the Kiama girls.
