U7 Gold
Played a fast paced and exciting game against Warilla Red on Saturday. Zac Nicholson led from the front driving the ball down into the oppositions half many times setting up two great goals and scoring one himself. Cooper Bond tackled relentlessly throughout the game and was quick to seize the opportunity to pass to Bradley McDonald who showed great skill side-stepping two opposition players to score. Warilla found their rhythm and scored two quick goals of their own with some full field runs. It was time for Kiama to come back and Leo Jeffrey was very quick down the side line and with a quick pass setup Dylan Smith for a superb goal. Guy Sinclair expertly blocked a direct shot on goal and then had a fantastic opportunity to score which just went agonisingly wide. After only their first game the guys have formed a great team and are looking forward to more great games.Kiama Komets 10b's started the season with a close fought 1-0 victory over Albion Park on Saturday morning. For the entire match it was to and fro between the two teams until with 10 minutes remaining Nathan Duncan seized an opportunity and struck the ball clean into the back of the net! In both attack and defence the team showed great spirit with defenders James Bradbury, Adjei Hammond-Cotterill, Jack Farrugia and Joseph Daly, together with goalies Tom McGinty and Ben Harris keeping Albion Park scoreless. Centre field players Cameron Kelly, Jackson Williams, Jack Boulding kept feeding the ball to solid attack by Adric Forbes- Brown and Nathan Duncan. The coaches’ award went to James Bradbury for his dogmatic defence for the entire match. All players and coaches were very happy with their win, with only limited training prior to the season commencing. It should be a good year and it will be worth keeping an eye on this team!
Under-13 Girls Division One Result:
Figtree 1 Kiama 1
IN hot conditions last Sunday, Kiama U-13 girls side produced a strong team display which nearly was enough to win the game, but Figtree equalised from the penalty spot late in the match.
Keeper, Amy Hudson was called upon to produce some fine saves in an even first half, while Sharna Dobson was a lynchpin in the heart of the Kiama defence.
Chelsea Ford and Chloe Cafe controlled midfield for long spells, while Kelsey Wishart up front was always a danger on the break.
After a goalless first half, both sides started to pick up the tempo in search for the elusive first goal. Some fine passing play by Kiama involving Seychelle Albert, Wishart, Ford and Ashleigh Campton from the back, put Kelsey through to score after 45 minutes.
Clair Farquhar had a pleasing league debut out wide, so too Erin Dobson and Georgia Harrison in defence, linking up well at times with Jessica Davies on the left, but Kiama could not break down a resolute defence.
Long throw specialist, Georgie Alexander, was causing some trouble in the Figtree half, but Kiama could not capitalise on these long balls into the area.
WIth 10 minutes remaining, Figtree were awarded a penalty for hand ball in the area, which was expertly dispatched, giving Hudson in Kiama goal no chance.
A fair result on the day, but it was a fine team performance from the girls under the circumstance, especially after a faulty pre-season preparation due to the inclement weather.
