GRANDFINALS 2009
The Illawarra Junior Football Association held a very successful Grandfinal series at the weekend hosted by Kiama Junior Football Club at Kiama Quarry fields. What an awesome weekend it was with fantastic weather drawing thousands of spectators along to watch the 41 games that were running. Kiama had four teams make it into the Grandfinals with U13 Div 2 and U14 Div 4 winning the Grandfinals and U15 Div 3 and U15G Div 2 coming away with runner ups. We would like to extend special thanks to the committee who worked tirelessly up to, during and after the event to make it so successful and not forgetting parents, families, coaches, managers & players of KJFC who also volunteered their time in assisting. Congratulations to all the teams who have competed this year and to those who made it into final series. We have had a very competitive year with 11 teams out of 18 making it into the series.

Grand Final winners
KIAMA U13 A's vs. UNANDERRA at Kiama Saturday 5 September 2009
In the first half Kiama defence again proved to be one of the best in the
division with Jaiden Fullerton-Harvey, Travis Gonzales and Murray Corradini
ensuring Unanderra attacks were repelled. The game was evenly poised and
Kiama achieved its first objective by holding back Unanderra for the first
15 minutes. In the 2nd half Kiama kept pressure on Unanderra but their keeper ensured
Kiama's efforts went unrewarded. Mitchell Nightingale's free kick was saved
on the line. The game was 0-0 at fulltime. At the start of extra time Kiama was noticeable the better team creating numerous attacks. Unanderra had one counter attack but they hit the
crossbar. Kiama went back to the original plan and played up the sides. A throw-in by
Erik Ulfsson was followed by a cross by Jacob Lester and a SUPERB header by
Joshua Gorrie, 1 -nil to Kiama in the 7th minute of extra time. This proved
enough to win the title of Grand Champions. Jonty Towle was rewarded the man
of the match.

U14 Div 4 team  Grandfinal winners
Kiama secured a hard fought grand final win 1-0 over Fern Hill on Saturday at Kiama. With Bam Manorom now back from injury in the forwards, Kiama started the game in great form controlling the ball and having numerous shots on goal.
Fern Hill then started to make some inroads into the Kiama defense forcing our stand in goal keeper, Nick Keatley, to clean the ball up. Shortly before half time Charlie Carlson scored off a sensational long range penalty kick. The second half was a very even affair with both teams having chances to score. Stefan Vukovic, Ruben Cambell, Chris Starr and Simon Meaney worked hard in defense all day giving Fern Hill limited opportunities. Fern Hill's chance to even up the score came midway through the second half when Nick Keatley saved a shot on goal. The ball deflected back to a Fern Hill player at close range who had another shot which hit Nick in the face to save the day. Kiama continued to attack through the midfield with Josh Keatley and Ryan Bell distributing the ball to the forwards. Sarah Bestwick and Cameron Havasi worked well together on the left in attack and Tas Formosa, Sam Marlton and Nathan Hall combining strongly on the right hand side. Special thanks to Alex Herbert and Darcy Alexander who played and trained with the team all year but were unable to play in the grand final and a big thanks from all our team to our super coach Jim Cahill.

U15 Div 3 team Grandfinal runner up
Sunday 6th September saw the Kiama U15A soccer team take on Woonona in the grand final. With very little separating the two teams all season, a close and tough encounter was expected. Woonona took an early two goal advantage, but Kiama’s never-say-die attitude prevailed with Jacob Pickles making the score 2-1 shortly before half time. The second half saw the Kiama defence of Jonno Brain, Tom Hassler, Matt Schwartz, Matt Jones, Simon Meaney and Pat McDonald repel repeated attacks on their goal, with keeper Dylan McDonald as solid as ever. At the same time, the midfield and forward line-up of Brad George, James Malin, Nicko Forrest, Matt Finch, Jacob Pickles, Charlie Carlson and Matt Waite came perilously close to equalising on several occasions but it wasn’t to be. While a late penalty to Woonona and then a further goal resulted in a loss, all the Kiama boys can be justifiably proud of their minor premiership and other achievements throughout the season.
